Cabaran Toman 2010 at Bukit Merah Laketown Resort

Bukit Merah Laketown Resort organized the Toman Challenge Fishing Competition for the second time on 7 March 2010 following the success of the first Toman Challenge on 25 December 2008. The Toman Challenge was organized with the cooperation from the Perak Fisheries Department.

Although ran in a moderate scale, this year’s Toman Challenge managed to gather a total of 214 participants from all over Perak Darul Ridzuan especially from Bagan Seri, Parit Buntar and Taiping. There were also participants from Penang, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur. The participation fee was set at RM30 per rod and the fishing competition was held from 8.00 a.m. till 1.00 p.m.

The Toman Challenge 2010 was launched by YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Hj. Mustapha Kamal Hj. Abu Bakar, Executive Chairman of MK Land Holdings Berhad at 8.00 a.m. sharp together with representatives from Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd, En. Akryl Azam Bin Aruding, Head of Trade Marketing for Perak and from TCE Tackles Sdn Bhd, En. Dennis Chong, Advertising & IT Manager.

The prize giving ceremony was grazed by En. Annuar Yang Ghazali, Senior General Manager of MK Land Hotels & Resorts. He was accompanied by En. Holil Bin Dahalan, General Manager & Land Matters of MK Land Holdings Berhad and En. Ahmad Husaini Hassan, General Manager of Bukit Merah Laketown Resort.

The winner of the Toman Challenge was En. Mohd Rizal Bin Ahmad from Pondok Tanjung with a toman catch of 3.22 Kilograms. He won RM2,000 in cash and souvenirs worth RM500 from TCE Tackles Sdn Bhd. En. Mohd Rizal Bin Ahmad works as an operator. He used meat as bait and caught the winning fish at 9.25 a.m. He said that he will use the prize money to purchase baby products for his first baby due in April.

The second prize winner was En. Omar Bin Amran from Parit Gabis with his catch weighing 1.70 Kg. He took home RM1,000 in cash and souvenirs worth RM500. The third prize went to En. Mohd Yusri Bin Othman from Bagan Serai with a catch of 1.20 Kg. He won RM500 in cash and souvenirs worth RM500. There were also lucky draw prizes for the participants.

The main sponsors for the Toman Challenge 2010 were Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd and TCE TACKLES Sdn Bhd. Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd sponsored RM3,500 in cash for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners as well as prepaid Celcom packs worth RM4,250 for each participant. TCE TACKLES Sdn Bhd sponsored side prizes and souvenirs worth RM1223.50 for the competition.

Besides the Toman Challenge, there were also other side events such as car and motorcycle demonstrations, a blood donation campaign and a karaoke competition.

The karaoke competition, organized by Difference Sound Studio was won by Wan Nooraini Bt Halip, 22 years old from Taiping. She took home a 2D/1N room voucher for Suria Service Apartment Hotel and cash. A total of 20 participants took part in the karaoke competition.

In addition to the fun activities, Bukit Merah Laketown Resort also invited the Taiping Hospital Blood Bank for a blood donation campaign. A total of 18 people, mostly staff of Bukit Merah Laketown Resort came forward to donate blood from 9.00 a.m. till 1.00 p.m.

Strategically located near the North-South highway, Bukit Merah Laketown Resort is a favourite family holiday destination. There are many attractions here including a Waterpark, an Orang Utan Island, an Ecopark, recreation activities as well as accommodation facilities.
