Elitch Gardens is opening for the season this weekend

Park will be open weekends through mid-May and then daily through the summer

In a sign that summer is almost here, Elitch Gardens will open this weekend.

In preparation for the season opening, workers have logged more than 73,000 hours of prep work and training, according to a news release.

“We’ve been testing coasters, tasting funnel cakes and training our team — we’re ready to get this party started,” said Tracy Durham, marketing director for Elitch Gardens, in the release.

Officials also said more than 200,000 stuffed animals, 15,000 pounds of French fries and 5,120,000 feet of toilet paper ensure the park is ready for the summer season.

This season, Elitch’s will hold eight concerts featuring artists including Echosmith, Shawn Hook and Rachel Platten.

The park also announced the lineup of six movies to play at the Dive-In movie theater, including “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Inside Out” and “Minions.”

Elitch’s will host a new weekly event, Theme Thursday’s, beginning July 7. The event will allow guests to enjoy extended park hours on Thursday nights set to a unique theme.

Starting Saturday, the theme park will be open weekends and some weekdays through mid-May, and then open daily starting May 19. The water park opens May 28.
